About
Angela Barnett is Melbourne based artist who creates large-scale projections, interactive installations, performance art, video art, animation, live visuals and illustration. Her style juxtaposes bright colours against contrasting tones, and abstract shapes with figurative forms.
Angela was the Artist in Residence at Cube 37, Frankston Arts Centre (2006–2007). She was a recipient of the Emerging Producers In Communities (EPIC) grant from The Australia Council (2006), selected as the key artist for the first Gertrude Street Projection Festival (2008), won the prize for ‘Best Multimedia’ at the ATOM (2008) and was a commissioned artists for Experimenta Playground, 3rd International Biennial of Art (2007 – 2009). Angela was also a commissioned artists for the Awesome Arts Creative Challenge (2017, 2018 & 2019).
Angela’s works have shown at The Melbourne International Animation Festival (2006), L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (2008), Melbourne Spring Fashion Festival (2008), The Melbourne Fringe Festival (2008), Experimenta Playground 3rd International Biennial of Media Art (2007 -2009), the International Symposium of Electronic Art, Singapore (2008), the Lettre Amorsa Festival, Paris (2009) and numerous times at The Gertrude Street Projection Festival (2008 -2015). She has exhibited work at The National Gallery of Victoria, Black Box Gallery, Cube 37, Frankston Arts Centre, Carriageworks Performance Space, Sydney, Samstag Museum of Art, Adelaide, Sculpture Square, Singapore and Punt, Barcelona.
Angela is also VJ performing under the name Pixel Angel. Internationally Pixel Angel has performed at the Art-E Festival in Barcelona, Spain, German Poetry Slam in Bogota Columbia, Plano B nightclub in Porto, Portugal. Here in Australia she has delivered visual performances at the Rainbow Serpent Festival, the Enchanted Garden Party, The Soundgarden, VAMFF, Summer Sounds, Laser Highway, GSPF, Bandits of Babylon, Lucha Fantastica, Tilt Shift,Cognitive Dissidence, Vinyl Vixens, Electundra, Play Native, the Melbourne Music Society, Motorsoul, Modular and Silhouette.
Angela has a Bachelor of Design from Swinburne University (1998), a Masters of Animation and Interactive Media from RMIT University (2006) and a Masters of Arts and Cultural Management from Melbourne University (2014).
